Housing in London

Students are accommodated in various residences, and room assignments are based on availability. Please note that while CIS Abroad makes every effort to accommodate your housing preferences, we cannot guarantee that all personal preferences will be met. We have carefully selected safe and suitable housing for each student, and each living arrangement is unique and special in its own way.

Westminster Housing

While at the University of Westminster, students live in private rooms in apartment-style residence halls on the university campus called Harrow. The residence hall is located zone 4, about 20-35 min by tube from Central London (downtown). London’s public transportation system allows for an easy commute and tube cards are provided for students (credit to cover rides to-and-from class during term time).

Harrow Halls has single rooms and ensuite bathrooms, and is closely located to a residential area with supermarkets, shops, and pubs.

Oyster Cards:

Students will receive Oyster (metro) cards at the start of the program. Please note that there is enough on the card to cover your transport to and from class for the duration of your program. This does NOT INCLUDE PERSONAL TRAVEL so if you use the same card for personal expenses, it will run out quickly. You are responsible for your Oyster card and the onsite staff will not replace it if it is lost or stolen. 

Cutlery and kitchen items:
The University of Westminster does not provide cutlery and kitchen items. Some items may be left by previous students and stored in the shared kitchens. Students are encouraged to check what is available in the kitchens upon arrival and purchase what they will need.

Our On-Site Staff can direct you to appropriate places to purchase them. We recommend not purchasing a lot of items due to the short length of the program.

A basic set can be purchased on-site for approximately £40 from Argos and other homeware stores. Similarly, students can choose to order a kitchen pack and have it delivered to their residence. Various options are available through UniKitOut.

Roehampton Housing

As a CIS Abroad student on at the University of Roehampton, you’ll live in a premium ensuite single room with modern amenities in one of the residence halls on campus. Wi-Fi is available in common spaces, but you may want to bring an ethernet cable for a stronger internet connection in your private bedroom.

Living in the residence halls provides you with the opportunity to meet students from different cultures and backgrounds. There are also cafeterias, shops, and coffee and snack bars located on campus, as well as student union facilities, where you can relax and spend time with your new friends!

Value Housing Option

Students seeking budget on-campus accommodation may request to live in standard single room for a reduced fee. This option offers a shared bathroom and kitchen on campus.

Note: Summer students will stay in standard single room housing with shared bathroom and kitchen.


Meals

All Roehampton housing is self-catered, with a communal kitchen for student use in each corridor. Each kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, oven, stovetop, microwave, kettle and toaster. A basic pack will be provided, which includes plates, a bowl, utensils, cutlery, pans, corkscrew, and can opener. You can buy groceries in the village, which is a short ten-minute walk from the main campus, or at ASDA (a large supermarket), only a short bus trip from the campus.

Maintaining a Harmonious Living Environment

When sharing living spaces, it is important to act responsibly and considerately toward your fellow residents. This includes being mindful of noise levels, turning off lights and windows when not in use, and adhering to specific rules outlined in your housing contract.

The goal is to create a safe, comfortable, and healthy living environment for all residents. Rules may vary depending on the program, but these guidelines are in place to ensure that everyone can enjoy their time in the residence hall.

  • Communicate effectively with your roommates and neighbours. Establish ground rules for noise levels and other activities, and work together to create a peaceful and comfortable living space.
  • Show respect to the other occupants in your apartment or residence. Clean up after yourself and ensure your living space is always tidy and organized.
  • Be polite to your neighbours, greet them in the hallways, and avoid disturbing them late at night.
  • Maintain the safety of yourself, your roommates, and your belongings. Be cautious about inviting guests and overnight stays.
  • Take responsibility for your own cooking and cleaning. Wash your dishes daily and keep the bathroom clean. Avoid leaving your personal items in common areas.
  • Keep in mind that you are financially responsible for the condition of the apartment. Additional cleaning may incur charges. Damages to the apartment will be your responsibility to cover.
